Methods for Installing Solid Wood Flooring
Nail-Down Installation:
Solid wood flooring can be secret-nailed onto a timber subfloor. Suitable subfloor types include:
- Solid wood flooring
- Plywood
- OSB (Oriented Strand Board)
- Particleboard
- Most vinyl tile or non-cushioned resilient floors installed over a wood subfloor and securely adhered
Glue-Down Installation:
Solid wood flooring can be glued directly to a variety of surfaces, such as:
- Concrete
- Ceramic tiles
- Terrazzo
- Metal
- Slate
- Marble
- OSB
- Plywood
Ensure the existing surface is rough or porous. Slick or sealed surfaces, like gypsum and anhydrite screeds, should be pre-sanded to remove the soft surface laitance.
Important Notes for Gluing to Concrete:
A surface primer is recommended to ensure a strong bond between the adhesive and the subfloor.

Additional preparation is necessary, including removing the soft surface laitance and applying a primer and leveling compound before installation.
